The Calling of the Ocean

Reflection

In this composition titled “The Calling of the Ocean,” I created three movements: 1. Peaceful 2. Rainstorm 3. Renaissance. The first movement starts with the calm surface of the ocean, leading to torrents in the depths of the sea. There are two sides of the sea, beauty, and darkness. I used many staccatos to represent the vibrancy of the sea. In movement two, I describe a scene where human beings are destroying the marine ecosystems by polluting them. It is a stormy nightmare for the sea, with plenty of chromatic scales to express the rage of the sea. In the third movement, the sea begins to calm down. Human beings come to sense the destructive effects on the oceans. They rectify, they repent and try to make things better. The melody is soothing and uplifting. In the end, I express the challenge faced by my generation and our Blue Planet--climate change--and how human beings must change to protect nature.
