Ever since I was a little kid, I have cared deeply about climate change, pollution, and animal extinction. I remember being seven or eight and reading about our dying rainforests. It made me feel very sad and angry. I wanted to help the animals who were losing their habitats and lives. A problem that has recently captured my attention is carbon emissions. Carbon emissions are raising the sea-level and causing ocean acidity, both of which are terrible for the ocean and for us. When I learned about this, I wanted to throw my carbon-releasing car to the junkyard! I looked around my home and realized there were a lot of tiny habits I had formed that were negatively affecting the environment--I left lights on when I wasn’t in the room, threw out food, and took showers that were very long and used very hot water. I felt terrible as I saw that I was contributing to climate change! I wanted to do something that would alert others around me and also teach them how they could help. My song is meant to teach the next generation how their actions affect the earth, the ocean, and themselves, because if we can teach children this, they will be able to help our Earth in the future. I love our ocean. It is a huge part of our lives that is silent and helpless. I am trying to give it a voice.
