The Cost of the Rich
Cara Lee
Las Vegas, NV
2021, Junior, Art (2014 – 2023)
Reflection

My work was inspired by the contrast of the greed of the rich and the sacrifice of the poor. In order for CEOs to have huge properties and countries to own oil, we must sacrifice children and communities' access to water and other resources. While creating this work, I realized how stark the difference is between the rich and the poor, how crucial water is, and how much we depend on it. I hope that by exploring my work, my audience can realize how our life-sustaining resource (water) is lost when the rich let their greed run free. By viewing and creating art about this issue, youth artists and viewers can learn the significance of water.
