Reflection
The idea of my art piece goes back to August of 2022 in Korea. I was heading home from Daechi-dong, a city in Korea, during the monsoon season of Korea. In Seoul, the daily cumulative precipitation was up to 381.5 mm. Going downstairs, the rain was waiting for me. I could barely walk through the street due to the water being above my waist. Some of the cars on the road were floating away due to unexpected heavy rainfall. People were grumbling, anxious, and scared. I remember just standing there taking everything in. The artwork portrays me in the piece (person with the blue umbrella) Instead of drawing the submerged cars and buses, I tried to evoke a realistic approach for the audience. Hence why I chose to use a 3D model of the vehicles and added paint on them. I used acrylic paint for color and clay model myself. With the use of the resin, I was able to portray a glossy texture of the rain. Through this artwork, I want to raise awareness of the dramatic weather change that has occurred in Korea. Climate change is already taking a pivotal role in society, and I want to inform people of the importance of protecting the environment, such as the devastating rainfall in Korea. I hope this artwork may be viewed by more than enough people to take climate as a serious matter.
