Climate Hero: Angela Haseltine Pozzi, Washed Ashore Project
Reflection
To support our wealthy lives, all of our conveniences come at a cost. The world is filled with all sorts of trash and harmful substances for the environment. Unfortunately, most people think of it as “out of sight, out of mind.” Annie Leonard, an environmental activist, warns, “there is no such thing as ‘away,’ When we throw anything away, it must go somewhere.” My climate hero is the Washed Ashore Project, a traveling exhibit featuring giant sea life sculptures made entirely of marine debris collected from beaches to geographically illustrate the tragedy of plastic pollution in our oceans and waterways. It was founded in 2010 by an artist, Angela Haseltine Pozzi. They gave me inspiration for how we can send a message in the form of art. We, as the future generation, must redirect our course of action. If we make the right decision and tackle the current trash issues, we can stop this threat and keep our Earth bright and healthy for years to come. This brightness, inspired my creative process to form trash into the future generation. Through my art, I hope I can bring awareness to the ever-expanding issues of climate change and environmental threats.
