The Green Beneath the Blue: Sustainable Seagrass Restoration

Reflection
The idea for my piece began with a single question: What if we could restore what we’ve damaged? After diving and witnessing Thailand’s declining seagrass meadows firsthand, I felt compelled to take action, not just through restoration, but by bringing the importance of seagrass to light. As a young diver living in Thailand who grew up with the ocean as my favorite place, it was easy for me to connect deeply with this issue. What inspired my creative process was the urgency I felt underwater and how overlooked seagrass was in my home country, despite its role in protecting marine life like dugongs and whale sharks. I didn’t want to present facts, I wanted to tell a story that made people feel something. My message to viewers is this: no matter how young you are, it’s never too early to start. Even small steps—like learning or restoring a single seagrass patch—can grow into something much bigger.
