Reflection
Our dance piece, The Harvest Dance, came from a traditional Luganda(a local Language in Uganda) folk song called "Bamwongere," which means “add more.” The idea came from reflecting on how life in the city often limits children’s connection to nature. In our performance, we show city kids caught in the fast pace of urban life, when a child from a rural area joyfully passes by carrying an abundance of fruits. Curious, we follow him, and in doing so, we discover the beauty and richness of nature. This celebration of nature is at the heart of our dance. Through the Ocean Awareness Contest theme Connections to Nature: Looking Inside, Going Outside, we’ve learned that nature isn’t just outside us it also fuels our anger, hunger, inner joy, health, and imagination. Our message is simple but important: nature is a gift worth celebrating and protecting. It gives us not just fruits to eat but energy to move, create, and create. As we end the dance waving goodbye and enjoying the fruits, we invite everyone to remember the joy of connecting with the earth and to never stop adding more love and care for our planet.
