Reflection
Climate change is considered to be such a well-known issue, and yet most people don’t realize how serious and broad the impact is especially when it comes to the inter-play between the ocean and the climate. “The oceans influence the weather on local to global scales, while changes in climate can fundamentally alter many properties of the oceans," according to the U.S. EPA. Oceans are changing fundamentally, becoming more acidic because of the increase in carbon dioxide in the air which affects the weather cycle as well as marine life. Due to changes in oceanic temperature, we are seeing cities being flooded in one part of the world while drought is costing lives in other parts. The only hope lies with organizations working in local communities for both protection and equitable distribution of water (e.g. NRWA). I wanted to demonstrate the central and critical role these grassroots water protectors play in preventing a catastrophic future. They are our last hope.
