Reflection

Our film showcases the beauty of our island home and just how much there is to protect. All life on Earth would not be possible without the ocean. This message is especially important to us on Maui since we are surrounded by the ocean, and we are already seeing the effects of climate change. The Kumulipo is an ancient Hawaiian creation chant about the formation of life that begins in the ocean. We thought it was important to start out our film with this chant to show how much we’ve detached ourselves from the land and sea that we need to survive. We’ve lost a connection, and we need to get it back. Throughout the film we interviewed three people who have an unbreakable connection with the ocean, and they each shared why they believe we need to step up and make a change. We created this short film to help people understand the importance of our ocean, the harm we’re bringing it, and most importantly, how to make a difference. So how do we make a difference? The answer is easy. We have to care. Our hope is to inspire you to truly care for our ocean.
