Climate change solution
Be part of the contribution
Revolution
Against the confusion and illusion
With nowhere to move, nowhere to breath
Their corals are bleached, whales are beached
We’re destroying the life beneath
The oceans are getting increasingly hot
Where nothing can live, they’ll be no hope spot
Life can’t sustain in a large boiling pot
And all the fish will be left to rot
Plastic in all sizes fill up our oceans
So put in the work and have devotion
You can put a plan in motion
‘Cause these fish are caught in a state of commotion
Plastic
Is drastic
Be a hero
Not a zero
Recycle
Bicycle
Reduce
Don’t produce
Reusing’s
not confusing
If you dream it
You can climate
Set your goals high
And fix what will lie
Beneath the waves
And the ocean caves
Plastic is making all types of gasses.
Which warms the water where it passes.
The sea plants will dwindle and so will the grasses.
And fish are dying in large numbers in masses.
Is that enough of head’s up,
To realize that these fish can’t get a doctor’s check-up?
One mess up
Could cause their death, Yup!
And you don’t need a grown up!
To tell you what to do and what to think
Just ‘cause you’re a kid doesn’t mean you need to shrink
Maybe you’re the missing link
To help the creatures on the brink
One kid can make difference and that is what we preach,
You’ll be shocked at the amount of people that it can reach
Pick up some trash, clean up the beach
Might be one less coral that will bleach
The impact on the Earth is
Something that’s worth it
So don’t forfeit,
think of an idea and birth it
You could make a project that could change the course of the planet
Just think of an idea and go out there and plan it
Find a group of people with the same beliefs as you
Get together, make a change, make your goals come true
Plastic
Is drastic
Be a hero
Not a zero
Recycle
Bicycle
Reduce
Don’t produce
Reusing’s
not confusing
If you dream it
You can climate
Set your goals high
And fix what will lie
Beneath the waves
And the ocean caves
Reflection
Through our exploration of Climate Hope: Transforming Crisis we were inspired to write a piece that conveys a positive message to youth that we can make an impact and a change. During and after writing this song we felt a strong connection to the ocean and a positive energy getting our message out in a song. After doing our research it was clear that many things can be done to help slow climate change and we wanted to reflect that in our writing. We are both grateful to see contests like this one engaging youth because we can make a big difference! It is inspiring to realize that everyone has something they can be doing that really is not a big change but can make a huge change for our oceans. We feel even more inspired to pick up trash, to reduce our energy and our carbon footprint. We also feel motivated to work every day to make better choices and to find creative ways to get out message heard.
