Thinking about climate change and ocean acidification, I thought about how large one person’s carbon footprint just in trash would be. Each trash island represents the trash a person leaves behind on our planet's environment. The trash reflects the negligent behavior caused by ignorance and evil in human nature as the trash pile becomes muddled with human features. The process of painting my piece raised a feeling of shame because I saw myself as a contaminant to our earth’s beautiful and vast sea. These feelings helped me feel passionate about the message I want to convey. I hope to encourage people to reduce their trash use in order to preserve our seas. Contributing to rising CO2 levels, the average carbon footprint for a person in the United States is 16 tons, one of the highest rates in the world. In order to sustain and conserve the environment from these harms, I make sure to reduce my carbon footprint. I will turn the light and water off when it is not necessary, support sustainable businesses, walk or bike, reduce plastic usage, and more.
