The Real Water Cycle

Reflection
Our video focuses on the unknown, darker side of the water cycle, the cycle that contaminates many water sources today. We wanted to portray the message that the water we return to the source may end up contaminating the source in such a way that it will negatively affect the environment and eventually make the water source unsustainable in the future. One of us is a filmmaker, the other, an artist, so our ideas on how to combine our skills together came down to a stop motion/animation/live action hybrid. Our video is in the style of advertisements that start slow, but get more intense to emphasize what would happen if the viewer does not buy the product. Repeating scenes in a cyclical manner, accelerating the intervals between cuts, illustrating the quality of the water getting worse and worse, and using the intensity of the music to create a sense of urgency, we wanted the viewer to feel as if it is almost too late to fix the water situation to serve as a warning. After researching water pollution, we plan not to throw away items containing harmful chemicals down the drain or toilet and to try to use fertilizer on days where there isn’t rain to wash it away.
