The Sound of Nature

Reflection
Our original film was inspired by a typhoon that occurred in February at Pebble Beach, California, the place we call home, that caused transportation to cease, school closure, golf field being damaged, and electricity fades. We pondered what would happen if these intervals of nature overpowering man were to occur longer and more frequently, until we realized that to be an overwhelmingly viable possibility for our future if climate change is not prioritized and tackled. We developed our story surrounding a post-apocalyptic world, not too far or unsimilar to ours, with our protagonist romanticizing about the past where climate change hadn’t taken over yet. The protagonist comes to recognize their history of shortcomings as a society, and the plot reaches a poignant conclusion that we hope will elicit a sense of urgency and empathy in our community to preserve what we have and combat climate change. Ultimately, we desire that our creations will influence public perception regarding climate protection and inspire collective action towards preserving our environment. As we conducted our research and gathered information to inspire our project, the vastly dim outlook on global warming, rising sea levels, and the general future for our society immediately evoked anxiety and a daunting self-awareness for us. However, as we continued to research and develop our project, our anxiety rather transformed into a source of motivation to learn, protect, and create to save the environment that we, especially of the younger generation, did not get the chance to fully appreciate yet. Knowing that our story, art, and commentary could potentially influence others to preserve the ocean and combat climate change further reinforced a sense of fulfillment and hope that we believe is scarce and deeply necessary in healing our modern world. To restore the balance in nature which includes us as a species, we must cease these harmful activities and adapt to alternatives that will halt degradation and slowly fix what we have broken.
