The Struggle
Akron, OH
2022, Junior, Poetry & Spoken Word
The world isn’t ending
We’ll all be fine
Doom isn’t pending
We haven’t crossed a line
The oceans aren’t rising
The ice isn’t thawing
The future isn’t dying
There is still room for redrawing
The heat, the weather
Soon we’ll get better
Nothing is wrong
We aren’t being strung along
Fires aren’t burning
Hurricanes aren’t hurting
Tornadoes aren’t twisting
We won’t stop existing
Everything is fine
So let’s go have a glass of wine
It will all be okay
So let’s enjoy this day
Nothing is wrong
So let’s go sing a song
The world isn’t changing
Our lives aren’t rearranging
Everything is great
So let’s go grab a plate
Isn’t this just splendid
So let’s not be offended
Because the world is fine
We haven’t crossed a line
There isn’t a problem
So why are you so solemn
Because the world is fine
Reflection
This piece is designed to give the reader a sense of impending doom. Although it may be sarcastic and a bit funny, the reader should not feel happy and good about the state of the world after reading this. This process has taught me that there are always different approaches to a problem, and sometimes the new, innovative way may be the best way.
