Reflection
I chose the medium of colored pencils and watercolors, because colored pencils allow vibrant layered rendering. While watercolors can create inherent transparency and fluidity. The contrast between the vibrant subject and dull background is why I chose these mediums, as it expresses the contrast between nature and the modern day landscape. I have engaged with these mediums in the past for school projects, competitions, and my first experiences with art. Furthermore, through the exploration of the contest theme, I have learned that enjoying experiences in the present moment is important, because it allows us to fully appreciate life. We’ll see the beauty of simplicity, instead of the devices and social media platforms that can jerk us out of the present. Finally, my message to viewers of my artwork is to take some time in reality. When we’re focused on the past or future, we’re not fully in the present. However, when we learn to settle into a moment, it allows for deeper connections with others and the world around us. The present is the only time we can make a difference.
