Because climate change is happening now, it is urgent that we act. Our actions are the only way to save our oceans. I hope that this piece encourages others to save the oceans. Creating this piece challenged me to think of and execute an idea. With this art piece, I aimed to engage the audience. The art displays an explosive device as a metaphor of our oceans, where colourful ocean creatures happily live on the blink of extinction. The countdown timer depicts how urgent the situation is, while encouraging others to act now. A pair of scissors show that we can be the change, that solutions are in our own hands. Each image on the four coloured wires represent one of the deleterious causes of climate change: deforestation, livestock farming, the emission of carbon dioxide through smoke, and plastic that pollutes the ocean. Cutting those wires could “defuse” the device, which also means that our beautiful oceans can be saved before it is too late. In other words, our inaction is our extinction.
