Reflection
I thought about the stingers on a jellyfish and how they stun and immobilize their prey, which gave me the idea in my picture for the jellyfish stopping and killing the pollution with its tentacles. The bell of the creature reminded me of a protective, clear shield in which I drew a beautiful landscape. Half of it is a green field with trees and a river and the other is a snow-covered setting with polar bears living without the disturbance of global warming. My message to the viewers of my artwork is that there is still hope to save our oceans. The jellyfish’s limbs represent all of us working together to fight pollution and climate change. Our ultimate goal is to protect the precious lands that we take for granted and help the animals that live among us. From researching about climate crisis, I have learned about so many different ways we harm our environment such as wasting food, clearing forests for agriculture and overfishing. Climate change started to accelerate dangerously quickly starting from the 1920’s and it has not relented since. I want to practice recycling properly and reusing containers that can be used to store items. I will also get into the habit of turning off lights whenever I leave a room to save energy. It gives me hope to see contests like the Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Contest encouraging people to research about the climate crisis.
