With this work, I want to pay attention to the issue of ocean acidification and to the destructive actions of humanity. It would be wonderful if each of us will think about the consequences of our “comfortable life” and about what each of us could change. Ocean acidification is a decrease in pH caused by carbon dioxide entering the ocean from the Earth’s atmosphere. Along with global warming, this process is a consequence of human activity. Acidification of the oceans can lead to a global catastrophe, which will affect all the inhabitants of the planet. As people filled the air with carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases causing global warming, most of the carbon dissolved in the ocean, resulting in an increase in water acidity. Ocean acidification destroys the protective shells of corals and mollusks (which are made from the same material), affects the livelihoods of young Atlantic cod, blue mussels, sea stars, sea urchins, blue mollusks and sea butterflies. Also, other creatures may suffer because of a violation of the food chain. Changes in the ocean are intensifying because of the global warming, pollution, coastal zones, intensive fishing and the use of agricultural fertilizers. Also, the acidification of the world's oceans will influence climate change processes by speeding them up. The balance is broken, there are irreversible processes that can lead to extinction of many species of plants and animals, as well as man himself. The time has come for each of us to think about it and act now. Tomorrow may be too late!
