When I was younger, me and my family would go to Taiwan for summer vacations. By the beach, I would often see hermit crabs scurrying around, as I would try catching them by their shells. However, when I went back a few years later, anticipating the mighty hermit crabs chase, I only saw hermit crabs carrying plastic trash on theirs backs instead of those colorful shells. And that made me very upset. I did some research about hermit crabs, and found that global warming had caused the ocean to absorb more CO2 which makes it difficult for organisms to form shells. Therefore, I made a short clip, showing the process of how climate change has effected the living style of hermit crabs, from before to after. during my research, i found that hermit crabs are also born without shells, so they are required to scavenge for them. And as climate changes, shells gradually disappear as trash progressively multiply, making trash the only thing for hermit crabs to use as shells. After learning about this, I really try to minimize my spendings on new products, especially when I have one that works perfectly fine, to reduce consumption. Instead, I will resort to sharing with my sisters. I just hope that my art work can raise awareness for the impacts climate change has on us, and sometimes, these impacts start small, just like the lives of this innocent hermit crabs.
