Climate Hero: Old Women
Reflection
Reflection
Not all heroes wear capes. In my country, it’s not rare to see the elderly picking up trash and taking it to the recycling center where they are reimbursed with a small amount of money. They work hard, yet almost no one recognizes their efforts. Without them our streets would be filled with waste and litter. While I was creating my artwork, I felt a mixture of admiration, sadness and guilt towards the elderly. The elderly aren’t as strong as we are and don’t have much time left in this world yet they are the ones working hard to make this world a better and healthier place for us. Seeing the elderly make great efforts to save our planet makes me optimistic about the future. There are people out there who still care about our Earth and their actions inspire people like me to take action. My message to the viewers of my artwork is this: we walk past environmental heroes everyday but treat them as if they are invisible. We must be thankful for those heroes but let’s not stop at only being thankful. You can be a hero too. We have the power to initiate change. If we all contribute and carry our own weight, climate change stands no chance against us.
