water
the clear, transparent chemical substance
that covers more than half of the earth
From the vast oceans
to the faucets in our homes
Some days it will be calm, gentle
a symbol of life, change
regulating global climate
providing water and oxygen,
Other times a destructive force
Taking lives, destroying structures

Water is like music
It brings people together and creates connections
It leads and ripples out to other places
the mood evoked in music varies,
anger, calmness, euphoria, excitement
like how water may sometimes be a destructive,
angry force, while other times, it is the safe,
calm force
As music can take almost any form,
water is sometimes undefined
because of its multiple forms
a liquid, gas, or solid
music
tells a story, brings back memories
As water can
Preserves things that are forgotten
Sunken under the deep sea surface

Water is a path, it creates a way
For people to come together
For people to fight each other
Holding the memories of the past
the artifacts sunken down
Preserved underneath the sand
On the bottom of the ocean

Water is the memory of the world,
The life and water molecules that have cycled
through Earth’s ecosystem
For billions of years
From The beginning of life
The beginning of the world

For some the ocean is their haven
A place to play, swim, have fun
Forget about your worries
For others it’s an unknowing force
uncomfortable, the feeling of unfamiliarity,
what could be lurking underneath the surface
the reflective surface
the endless horizon
Seemly going on forever

Reflection
Reflection

Writing my poem raised feelings of awareness, such as to help others and understand the need for water in other places. My poem helped me understand water, how it relates to music, how other people feel about it, and how it connects us as a community. I’ve learned that many people have different ideas about water; some think of it as a large and powerful force that can hurt them, while others think of it as a safe and a place like home. Now that I have learned more about the water supply and problems affecting it, I will try to spread awareness of the problems and also show how we can help people who are less fortunate.
