Reflection

After finding out that the theme was 'plastic in the ocean', my mind immediately jumped to the ubiquitous plastic bottles that are all over beaches and riverbanks. I contrasted the seriousness of the situation by using bright, cheerful colors for a piece that looks lighthearted at first glance. As the viewer observes more carefully, it becomes apparent that the piece is entirely made up of discarded materials. This is meant to raise the idea that fish and other marine organisms could adapt to the pollution in new and frightening ways if we do not take action.
