Reflection

My artwork shows the issue sea animals have with plastic dumped in the ocean. In my work, I deconstruct the consequences sea animal take from our effect of dumping plastic into the ocean. My work shows that not only does plastic harm sea creatures, it may also harm their environment as well. I also show how we don’t take this cause seriously and show the result of our ways. I started this piece at around the beginning of May and worked on it two times a week since then. The reason I chose to reference the inside of the animals’ bodies is to indicate how plastic harms sea animals for the rest of their lives. As I learned, plastic lasts for nearly five hundred years and does not decompose easily. Through this piece, I learned that animals are not as smart as us and need help through difficult situations such as encountering plastic. They may also see plastic as a part of their food chain. For example, a turtle may think a plastic bag is a jelly fish because of the way plastic bags are designed. Through this piece, it has helped me learn to be more aware of this cause and start using paper more than plastic because paper decompose quicker than plastic. Another reason why we should start using more paper is because it has less effect on sea animals and create a safer environment. I hope my piece represent to you how plastic may changes other lives and start caring more for those lives.
