I feel incredibly passionate about taking care of our earth and taking care of our animals. My art piece conveys the harm that plastic ocean pollution causes to the inhabitants of the destroyed water. My artwork is of a sea turtle crying tears of the ocean. The tear drop coming from the turtle’s eye is made of the sea. According to biologicaldiversity.org, 40% of the world’s ocean surfaces are made of plastic trash. To represent that terrifying statistic, 40% of the tear drop is made of images of plastic waste. Sea animals live in these oceans, and when their surroundings are polluted, it can get inside of them, and kill them. The tear is a non-literal metaphor for the trash that has gotten so fused into the water, that it comes out of the animals themselves. I want people who view my drawing to understand that polluting our oceans with plastic hurts not only us and our physical environment, but our animals, too. We are destroying their homes and bringing them to cry polluted tears.
