Reflection

This particular piece of art was created out of plastic bottles. The fins were cut in the top and bottom of the bottle and the tail fins then cut. I then cut the nozzle off the bottle to create the mouth of the fish. I collected the bottles around my schools trash, bottles that would have otherwise not been recycled. Once cut, the bottles were then suspended by a fishing line that was then attached to a piece of wood. I put the fish into a dark room and used a light to illuminate the fish to make them appear as if they were swimming. One of these pictures is the whole piece to show the school of fish. Two of the pictures are close ups of different sections to show the individual fish. I took the pictures using my iPhone 5 and there are no filters added to them. The purple light that appears in the bottom of the school of fish was because that light on the bottom interfered with my camera. I drew inspiration in a very literal sense because I wanted to show the importance of plastic pollution in the ocean. I thought the best way to do that was to make actual fish from plastic to convey the strongest message I could. I want this piece of work to persuade people to recycle plastics so they will not end up in the ocean. This is a very important problem that needs to be resolved that only humans have the power to fix.
