Reflection
I painted three images using watercolor and ink pen. All of my images relate to the idea that we should not ignore the problem of plastic pollution even if we cannot see the immediate effects of it. Beneath the surface of white sand and crystal waves is ocean life struggling to live but unable to revert its habitat back to its pristine state. The first image shows a boy building a sand castle, but he uses more plastic than sand. This reflects the amount of plastic that gets washed into the ocean and onto shores everyday. Pretty soon, more than just shells will prick our feet on beaches. The second image shows that we should not be blind to the effects of plastic pollution in the ocean. Even if the scenery is pretty, sinister forces lurk underneath our line of sight. The person in the second image sees the result of carelessness and laziness when it comes to our oceans. The third image is a close-up of plastic pollution extinguishing jellyfish. Only one of the jellyfish has its light bulb intact; the others’ have been crushed by plastic. My last two images are conceptual to stress the dangers of plastic pollution to life in our oceans. The first one is an admonition to everyone who brushes aside this issue simply because its effects are hidden. The images were based off photographs taken by me, and the jellyfish came from my imagination.
