Reflection

Throughout the past few years, I've noticed that the number of people in my life affected by climate change has significantly increased. At first, I kept quiet about it, but a benchmark project at my school revolving around environmental issues helped me realize that, through poetry, I had a voice, and I had to use it. While writing this piece, I felt a sense of understanding that anyone can help the cause, whether it's through raising awareness or small changes in our daily lives. My overall message to readers of my poem emphasizes that climate change affects not just the Earth, but also us humans, no matter our ages. Therefore, there is no more waiting for the right time to step up and contribute to the fight against climate change; the right time is now. Since most subjects in my poem were based on my own experiences, I conducted research to link climate change to the problems I saw impacting the people in my life, which helped me learn specific causes and effects of the issue. After acknowledging the extent of impacts caused by climate change, I will be sure to further raise awareness to my school and community in hopes of a healthier and safer world.
