Washed away. Born Anew.
Ryan Lee
Irvine, CA
2021, Junior, Poetry & Spoken Word

Text art in the shape of a tree with words about water, life, and change. Words emphasize water's impact on growth, life, destruction, and renewal.

Reflection

In fourth grade, we read the book Love That Dog. It showed shape poems, and although I didn’t really understand why they were called poems, I still loved the book. I chose the shape poem because it explains my story: it explains how water throughout my life has hurt me, but how it has also helped me grow. Water helps me understand that my past is washed away, but my future is still growing into a beautiful plant, and that in life the pain and pleasure will continue to come and go.
