“I miss the comfort of knowing everyone would be alright.” Growing up, I was raised with my favorite children’s stories: The Rainbow Fish, Swimmy, and The Snail and the Whale. All these tales made me marvel at the wonders that inhabited the vast oceans that populate our earth. But as I grew older, just as that quote from my song goes, I was exposed to the harsher side of reality and the direction our oceans were heading: species going extinct, coral bleaching, and ocean dead zones; my eyes were opened to the injustices and exploitation of my childhood fascination. I was then determined to improve the way I live and no longer be ignorant to the situation. I derive inspiration from my life and other people's struggles toward becoming all the promises we make to ourselves to avoid contributing to the issues the world faces today. I also reminisce on the beauty, the color, and the life of our oceans to remind people just how valuable they are. It is critical to always keep in mind that though we may struggle regarding helping the oceans, we can always take action and recognize how our behavior will affect the way we will live. I hope to keep our oceans alive and thriving for all the future story-tellers of the world.
