We Are Surrounded

I live in the City of Miami, a place known worldwide for its beaches and tourist activities related to the sea. It is also a place known as one of the first to suffer the consequences of climate change, the melting of the poles and the sinking of the coasts, no matter how luxurious the buildings are. Sometimes I look out the window of my mother's car and think of the old movies, where the police say to the bandits "Hands up, you are surrounded!" But I think this time it is about people and animals, surrounded by water on all sides. Due to our bad decisions, the water is growing and overflowing. We are all responsible for doing something, to save, not only the waters that give us oxygen, where algae and other plant species coexist with fantastic creatures that are at risk, but to save us too, save humanity. I am an immigrant girl, as you will surely notice when you read my last name, and this has made me think about the fact that sometimes people leave their homes, or countries in search of safety and opportunities for their children. In the same way, many marine species and even birds have to "move" and without wanting to. Ecosystems change due to personal interests of people who do things that threaten marine life. As a young person, I know that I need to show my sadness for the actions of a lot of my elders, and ask them, with love and respect, that together, they and us, regardless of our race or our beliefs, let's make a difference, make history, save our oceans and our lives: let's be the future.
