Weather the Storm

They say problems go away
Just give it time
They reach out and touch the waves
And say it’s fine
Hide the wounds and show blue skies
Seven seas, how they were
So I listened to their lies
The oceans unheard
Unheard
Cause I would talk to the waves
They seemed okay
But every storm was hiding the pain
You didn’t tell me that you were rising before my eyes
That the corals who need you as much as I do can’t survive
But I found out
I know now
We all must help in this world
To weather the storm
The ocean is our common ground
It feels rough, looks still
Doesn’t seem important now
But one day it will
This is our only home
And boiling sea
A healthy future only grows
With you and me
Cause I would talk to the waves
They seemed okay
But they knew where to place the blame
Plastic has left beauty draining, it floods when it’s raining down, down
More acidification, in this time-worn ocean, do you hear it now?
I can see
How it’ll be
If we all help in this world
To weather the storm
Weather the storm
Cause I would talk to the waves
They seemed okay
But every storm was waiting for change
So just turn off the taps right, close all the lights tonight
I know things could be different if you reuse and join this fight
Me and you
We could do
More to protect our world
And weather the storm
Weather the storm

From a young age, climate change and its effects are stressed in school and throughout the community. But I always wondered, if so many people are familiar with the deteriorating environment, why is it still happening? Sadly, it seems that though many people know that saving the Earth and the environment is important, they assume that other people are getting the job done, and that their actions have a trivial impact on the larger outcome. But if everyone thinks this way, the outcome will continue to go downhill. The state of the ocean is directly correlated with the state of our future, and the increase of CO2 levels and SLCPs won’t just affect Earth centuries from now, but even the next generation. Where I live, the only source of freshwater is from groundwater aquifers, and pollution is gradually permeating these aquifers, something that worries my community. After studying Earth Science in school, I’ve become more exposed to the peril that awaits the water my city relies on, and other places with the same problem, if inaction continues. Therefore, I decided to combine my love for music with my need to let the world know that soon it won’t just be the water of some cities in danger, but the water of the whole world. I’ve written songs, articles, and poems on climate change before, and will continue to do so for the sake of this planet. The efforts of everyone doing their part is the first step to weathering this storm.
