According to Gaworecki (2016), “two-thirds of the world’s population doesn’t have reliable access to freshwater.” Water scarcity does not solely affect drinking water but also livestock and agriculture. In the eyes of the young girl, we see tears of clean water flowing. Her skin is cracked representing one of the many water scarcity obstacles citizens of developing countries face. After moving past her cheek, we see a little boy retrieving water from a muddy well. All those obstacles endured just to obtain contaminated water. No wonder the little girl cries. Those tears are likely to be cleaner than the available water. The effects of water scarcity and contamination can not be reduced until we acknowledge our wastefulness and take the steps to conserve our resources.
