Reflection
Water has always been a wonder-filled experience for me. I always loved the appearance, feeling, and nature of it. Ever since I stepped into the ocean, I fell in love. My favorite part about water were the bubbles–they come in all shapes and sizes, and are absolutely beautiful when reflecting the aquatic ecosystem around them. Water is essential to my life. After all, my body is 70% water–I drink, breathe, and live on water. Water is wonderful, in every way I can imagine. However, arguably even more wondrous than water is our treatment of it. Water is humanity’s lifeline, but our behavior wouldn’t tell you that. Even though freshwater demand is expected to rise 33% by 2050, we are abusing it at a faster rate than ever before. From agricultural, industrial, to municipal pollution, almost every aspect of our society derives private good at the expense of our most precious resource. As the famous British poet W. H. Auden once said, “Thousands have lived without love, not one without water.” Stop being hypocrites in your treatment of water. After doing research on water, I have pledged myself to use more water efficient items in my daily life and continue to educate myself on ocean health. I hope my art will inspire others to join me on my journey.
