Worth It?

I sit here in my class learning about pollution,
I write with my mechanical pencil, in my binder, on my desk,
And I think what all these things have in common?
They are all plastic …
Awaiting to be thrown in the ocean,
Yet no one gives it a second thought,
Littering the ocean and killing the wildlife,
All so you can be happy, at least for awhile.
The can of your favorite soda,
The wrapper of the candy you loved as a child,
Your little brother or sister’s new toy,
All Plastic.
A generation running on waste,
From your newest phone, to your school supplies
All disregarded in the ocean, and forgotten
Genocide. Gone. Unattended. And forgotten,
Now as you sit here and read,
Tell me,
Is it worth it?
Reflection
This project really opened my eyes about how poorly the ocean is treated. It made me sit and think about all the rubbish and oil in the oceans just rotting away the wild lives natural habitat and its effect on the creatures themselves. All these problems are caused because of what we see as minor conveniences today as well such as mechanical pencils and plastic wrapping and such. Frankly not all those things causing the pollution are needed or appreciated either, and could easily be gotten rid of for good. Also a lot of those things are not healthy and the way they are made uses preservatives that make them rot in the ocean for generations.
