What I find funny about climate change is how most people think that humanity has already lost the battle against it. This phenomenon is called “climate doomism” and is now getting popular among adolescents. Constantly seeing disappointing news regarding climate change negatively affects the way we see this problem. However, I am certain that creating a more optimistic outlook on the climate crisis can open doors to new ideas, which can solve this issue. The main purpose of my short movie is to show the difference between climate doomism and climate optimism, specifically, how the second one connects and encourages people to be the change. The main character Mika is a representative of a climate doomer. She unintentionally ruins a sweet moment with her best friend by expressing her discouraging thoughts regarding plastic pollution. But watching TikToks of an eco-activist named Malya made her realize how much power she has in her hands. In my movie, I used well-known memes, idioms, irony, and optimism as tools to reach a wider audience and fill them with hope for a brighter future. I want every individual to know that their climate action matters and has an indispensable impact on our planet.
