Reflection
It has shown me that I need to be more conscious of our earth and it’s treasures and that we need to preserve and protect them. I am more aware of my world around me and what I can do to help protect our precious earth. For example, I am choosing to use a reusable cup instead of grabbing another disposable plastic water bottle. Plastic is a harm to our oceans and we can prevent our world from becoming more polluted by being more conscious of where things go and by recycling. Instead of throwing plastic water bottles away in the garbage, we can recycle them to make our world one step closer to being pollution free. The art contest has been a great experience for me and helped me expand my knowledge in this area.
The title of my piece is “You are What You Swim”. My piece shows a humpback whale leaping out of a plastic filled ocean. The whale leaping out of the ocean represents all the sea life of the ocean and how they are fighting to survive in these plastic filled habitats. The whale is breaking free from the ocean, but is slowly being sucked back into the polluted world that they live in. This represents the rest of the sea life that wants to escape from this nightmare of pollution. The paper on the whale represents the plastic transforming the sea life. The paper shows that the whale is turning into plastic because of the environment it is adapting to and is what it swims The plastic water splash represent that the ocean is filled with plastic but we don’t always see it because it is covered by the waters around it. The bursting of plastic also represents that one day our pollution problem will become too big to hide and will burst from the seams of the water and be uncontrollable; just how the water from a splash can’t be controlled
