Reflection

My climate story has to do with my family’s love for fishing. Ever since he was young, my dad loved fly fishing with my grandpa and so wanted to bring forth that tradition to his kids. Due to climate change, more lakes are being depleted in California especially. Eventually, the droughts in California will lead to a complete depletion of lakes for recreational use. The process of creating this piece made me feel sad as it felt like my favorite childhood traditions were coming to a close. I wanted to address the message that while climate change ultimately has large impacts, it also heavily impacts the little things in life that each person enjoys. In my research, I’ve learned that our government has a big impact on mitigating the effects of drought. With their help and legislation we can build infrastructure such as aquifer storage and low-head dams to combat the drying up of lakes and major water storage plots. Within my community, I have formed a club dedicated to the conservation of marine wildlife. Through this club we have been able to advocate for marine conservation and been able to spread ideas throughout our school. I hope to continue to spread PSAs about the importance of reducing drought throughout my community since California is especially vulnerable.
