Reflection

When brainstorming on what we wanted to be the subject of our film, we looked at experiences we all shared involving the ocean in our childhood, before climate change was so significant. We settled on two common ideas. Going to the beach as children and cartoons based on the ocean containing sea life. We wanted to represent our climate story by showing how things have changed from then and now due to the disastrous effects of climate change, and how that affects us. This lets us show how if things went from good to bad in such a short time, things will continue to deteriorate in the future. Thus we chose a sea creature cartoon character, Spongebob, that all of us could relate to. We wanted to represent it through the art of film as it links to the origin of Spongebob and it is a way to express what we are feeling and share it with others. Through the process of creating this artwork, we felt quite emotional to realise how disastrous climate change really is. Through our research we delved into how the ocean would be affected by climate change. We learnt that climate change affects everyone and everything, and if it keeps progressing, soon earth will not be in a suitable living condition. This is part of the message we are trying to emphasise through our film, that climate change destroys our homes and the things we love. Thus we must play our part to protect it. Other than small actions like recycling to do this, we can take part in beach clean-ups in our community like we did in our film. We can attend environmental conventions and events where we can learn about new ways to combat climate change and share new methods with others.
