Reflection
The narrative found in my composition chose me. The image of animals, water, boats and buildings kept recurring in my mind. I was compelled by the idea of bridging an ancient story to a current issue. The fable Noah's Ark is primitive and archetypal, I believe it transcends time. I'm using the moral of the fable to deliver my message to the viewer. Just as Noah did, we should be protecting our animals and planet. I created my composition with watercolor paints and pen and ink. I chose the technique of zentangling to create the waves because I wanted to convey the force of a raging ocean. I bordered the work with shadows of buildings suggesting the tenuous nature of coastal cities and communities. Having spent my childhood living along the coasts of New Zealand and Maine I have developed a strong connection to water. Throughout this experience I have gained a better understanding of the issues surrounding rising sea levels and its threat to life on Earth.
