Feeling a deep concern for the health and future of our ocean, Bow Seat Founder Linda Cabot embarked on a sailing trip with her teenage daughters in 2011 to create From the Bow Seat, a 64-minute educational documentary exploring environmental issues impacting the Gulf of Maine.
The act of making this film engaged Linda and her daughters in a unique, authentic, and transformative way—in a manner that textbooks alone could not. Realizing the power of art-making to educate, inspire, and activate younger generations, and informed by research documenting art’s benefits on improving communications and cognition skills as well as encouraging empathy and cultural understanding, Linda founded Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs in 2011 to empower youth through imagination and creation, and to motivate them to become active stewards of the ocean.
The film follows Bow Seat’s Founder Linda Cabot and her family on a week-long sail along the Maine coast, featuring interviews with local experts:
