Reflection
How can a plastic bag possibly pose any harm to the ocean? My artwork showcases the affect of the plastics discarded in the sea, and its effect on marine life. Plastics and trash we make transformed the former glory of the translucent waters and the flowing fauna of sea life. Our plastics not only pollute the ocean, but also takes on a huge effect on the marine life, who mistake the plastic as food. After I came across a picture, I saw the true horror on what plastic has done to marine life. A seal was entangled in plastic nets floating motionlessly in a sea of plastic and debris. I couldn’t forget it’s eyes, filled with misery and utter sadness, shedding silent tears. It inspired me to put it as the main focus on my drawing. The plastic nets pulls the seal from its colorful, serene ocean waters into a work of plastic, joining the many marine life that are trapped in the sea of trash, the black and white shading that foreshadowed their dark future. So think again before you let that plastic bag slip out of your hand, float harmlessly in the wind, and onto the sand. After all, it’s our ocean, our plastic
