Reflection

My piece, "Mechanical Fish," was a representative portrayal of all marine species – a warning to depict that all marine animals are facing the effects of climate change. I wanted to convey to the audience that if we, the community, keep polluting, then we will only have mechanically made marine animals to consume as a food source. The pipes, which are attached to the fish, represent the "life support" system in the ocean – similar to a life support system for hospital patients. Each pipe/tube which is "feeding" the fish is drawing its nutrients from different types of pollution – coming from burning fossil fuels, chemicals from factories, plastics from humans, carbon dioxide from farm animals, and so on. This made me aware that fish or the ocean itself is "fed" by many different types of pollution. We need to be vigilant and focus on reducing or eliminating the many ways in which we are killing the ocean.
