Verse
I talked to a polar bear
I thought maybe I should share
The horrors it’s been facing
From the choices that we’ve been making
Verse
It told me in its despair
The ice our home it is melting
The seals they’re vanishing
And we are drowning
Pre-chorus
Oh, sea levels rising
Coral reefs dying
How can I stop this destruction
What can I do now?
All this is frightening
‘Cuz this is what they’re telling me
Chorus
Take it easy there’s so much time
Hey, what’s wrong with just living our lives?
We’re just living our lives
All you young kids scared all the time
We’ll do just fine without the ice
There’s nothing we can do
Verse
Animal agriculture
The fossil fuel we are burning
Heat up the earth we all live in,
resulting in a mass extinction
Pre-chorus
Oh, we can still help out
We still save this earth
We can still stop our destruction
Get on your feet now
All this is frightening, I know
But this is what I’m telling you
Chorus
Take me serious there’s no more time
Fix this problem for future lives
G for our children’s lives
All us young kids I think it’s time
we do what we can so we survive
There’s so much we can do
Bridge
Reuse, reduce, use public transport
To lessen greenhouse gasses and landfill sites
forest fires, hurricanes and ocean dead zones
Are these tears I’m crying or acid rain
Chorus
Take me serious there’s no more time
Fix this problem for future lives
G for our children’s lives
All us young kids I think it’s time
we do what we can so we survive
There’s so much we can do
If we just try
Reflection
The inspiration for this song stems from the contrasting conversations I’ve had with different people and what I’ve heard them say about climate change. It is unbelievable how many people still don’t know or believe climate change is happening in this day and age. This is also partly to do with different forms of media with various motives behind what they say. I wanted a way to convey their stance and opinion on this area as well as that of those who are deeply affected by what’s happening. This is my first time writing my own song and the process of combining these two passions really lit a fire inside me throughout this whole project. I think an important message in the song that I've hopefully conveyed is to be critical of what you hear and read, especially online. This applies to everything but is extremely relevant when it comes to a problem as urgent as how we're treating our own planet. With all this newfound information I’ve become even more aware of how my personal choices, especially as a consumer, can affect the environment. I’m also once again, inspired to engage in new conversations with people around me and encourage them to join me in making more conscious decisions in the future.
