Before attending the San Francisco climate change protest last year, I further educated myself about governments' and big corporations' role in ocean degradation and the Earth's rising temperature. Despite the fact that these powerful groups knowingly contribute to a large majority of ocean deterioration through carbon emissions and pollution, they have the immense facilities to reverse the damages of climate change and repair the declining condition of the ocean. Knowing the importance of the ocean and its inhabitants to the balance of our biosphere, it is not surprising that people all over the world are beginning to protest the damages that large, powerful groups are causing. With my artwork, I illustrated protesters rallying for the government to take action against climate change for the hope of conserving the diverse ocean life. Although this depicts the American Capitol Building, similar protests happened in many other countries around the world. Our hope for a full transformation of the ocean not only relies on our individual ability to recycle and reduce waste, but also hinges on awareness and change from authority figures.
