Fluid Consideration

Look at yourself in the mirror and see you have everything that you could possibly need
And your family’s fine
You have a bed at night
And when you get thirsty, you just drink water, right?
But don’t you ever stop
And think of all you’ve got?
It takes two seconds out of your day
To open your eyes and realize
If the roles were replaced and
you lost all you had
You would hope someone
Would acknowledge that
If we open our hearts
And do everything we can
because everyone deserves a helping hand
To have water’s a right
The main source of life
No human left behind
No hand not intertwined
Clean water is life
And a shelter is love
Let’s take care of our earth
Give back to the ones we’ve hurt
Hoarding our water
Hungry sons and daughters
Why is there greed
When we all bleed
Red?
So why don’t we stop
Think of all we’ve got?
This is home
We are family
Let your pride go
Indulge in unity
No one deserves to walk alone

Reflection
Reflection
I hope that my piece evokes some contemplation in its viewers. It's very easy to take the little things for granted, but when we become aware of just how much we have, it creates inspiration to help someone who may not have the same privileges. The most astonishing thing I learned from my research was that water is actually a limited resource, and if we keep using water in excess, there will be a water shortage by 2040. There is only 0.007% of freshwater that is readily available to humans. Polluting and wasting water is making these numbers decline rapidly. I've grown up on the beach and have been surrounded by water my entire life, so I absolutely love the ocean. Doing research for this contest opened my eyes to how much our oceans need help, and how many people are suffering. I've always loved doing beach clean-ups, but I don't frequent them as much as I should. I now feel inspired to contribute more within my community to find whatever ways I can help make a change.
