Our family's love for fruit desserts ensures a constant bowl of assorted tropical fruits on our countertop. Initially, I found the stickers cute, depicting different images and origins, without much thought. However, my perspective changed after learning about the carbon footprint – the greenhouse gases generated by our activities. These stickers symbolize the transportation of fruits via plane, boat, or truck, emitting harmful gases during each journey. What seemed to be harmless sweet and sour fruits were actually causing global warming. Studies show that "in a single year, global food miles were responsible for 3bn tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions." This issue is not just international food transport, but also growing fruits locally outside of their seasonal growth, which uses extra energy and emissions for our convenience. Motivated by this realization, I aim to raise awareness about climate change through this artwork. By highlighting the environmental impact of everyday choices like fruit consumption, I hope to emphasize the urgency of addressing climate change as a global issue.
