When I researched ways to conserve coral reefs, I learned that tree roots prevent erosion. This in turn prevents debris from going out to sea and blocking out the sunlight and causing coral bleaching. My painting conveys the connection between trees and coral reefs. This idea popped out at me for an art subject because I like trees and like to draw trees, and my family plants several trees each year on our farm. I am angry about climate change and that drives me to try to help solve the problem. I am hopeful when I see trees being planted and as I hear about new ways to help in the climate change crisis. My message to viewers is that we all must look towards the future with hope, and channel all of our emotional energy into working together to solve this problem.
