Reflection
When brainstorming, most of my ideas consisted of presenting Las Vegas as the core example of an environmentally unsustainable city. Its water and energy consumption usages were through the roof, traffic congestion was a 9-5 hassle, and its heavy reliance on tourism can only put us at an undetermined risk for the future. But I realized I didn’t want to express something in my artwork that the mass audience would agree with. Instead, I meticulously researched over conservation efforts and natural spaces being implemented to improve the wellbeing of our city. At last, I landed on an idea that struck me personally as well as many other locals and visitors; the Bellagio Botanical Garden. To me, the botanical garden served as a beacon of hope. For just a moment, people could unwind from our materialistic societies and connect with nature once again. My art work showcases one of Bellagio’s many garden exhibitions, a figure in which I interpret as Mother Nature and an offering of flowers that are showered with its vital necessity: water. I wanted to portray this relationship as a metaphor to what nature brings us as a society. It is said that the inclusion of green spaces relieves stress and anxiety, reduces blood pressure and heart rate, and provides cleaner air for residents to thrive in.
