My artwork is based on a climate change story in my community. In my city, cherry blossom trees are something we all look forward to in Spring. However, this year, the flowers bloomed in mid winter and died within a week. After a bit of research I realized this was due to global warming. The warming temperatures during winter made trees bloom too early and snowfall to cease. This was crushing for my neighborhood as the blooming flowers that lasted most of the spring was an event we eagerly waited for all year. While creating this piece, I wanted to depict a young child dressed for the cold winter, but instead she faces the much too early bloom of flowers. In the background the earth is set on fire to symbolize global warming. With this piece I hope I can inspire others to spread awareness of the change global warming brings, even seemingly small ones.
