Ignorance and denial of science directly hurts the flora and fauna being negatively affected by climate change. Fear drives humans to wave off concerns about the crisis because accepting the real dangers the world faces means facing lifestyle changes many people are not ready to accept. Furthermore, witnessing people denounce the validity of climate change—from deniers on the news to protests in my own small town—came with the realization that many people ignore the obvious signs and facts of climate change to support their own agendas. The purposeful and sometimes weaponized ignorance inspired this artwork. Here I showcase the average “All American” person finally answering the Earth’s call. Unfortunately, her answer comes too late, as all the consequences of climate change have already overtaken her home without her noticing. The piece reflects the attitude of many Americans—that if climate change is not directly affecting them, it isn’t their problem. But this simply is not the case because climate change affects all of us. Some people will not care until it is too late, but with artworks like these, I believe a real change can be made. Spreading information can inspire young people to act, combating climate change to save plants, animals, and eventually humans.
